Penny is a tragic story with a happy ending, thanks to a caring couple that decided to take action rather than look the other way. This little dog ran the streets for quite a while until she was caught in a humane trap. She suffered severe neglect, starvation, and cold temps. This little dog had been bred (per the vet that treated her) and when she delivered her pups it caused a huge grapefruit size hernia on the outside of her abdomen. So when she had finally been trapped and taken in from the cold, it was evident life saving surgery was needed. With the help of our rescue organization and others including the Anderson newspaper, monies were donated to have her surgery, spay, vaccinations and all needed medical care. Now Penny has recovered, she is sweet, loves her other large dog companion in the home, but does chase the cat. She is about 10#'s, probably min pin and chihuahua. According to her foster mom she is house broken, very sweet and learning to play. She is a young dog, about 2 years, very healthy and can look forward now to living a normal life. She is a smart little girl and through all has done wonderfully. Her foster mom who caught and rehabilitated her will be part of the adoption process - iif serious please fill out the online app. if you'd like to read the full story of Penny's heartbreak please copy the following link into your browser window). http://www.andersonvalleypost.com/news/2010/dec/14/drive-opens-to-cure-this-stray-penny/
If you have any questions that aren't answered below or under our adoption information page, the quickest way to get a response is to email us at resq@resqanimalcoalition.com.
Most of our dogs will require secure, fenced yards. We will check this by a home visit or if out of town, via satellite photos. If these are not available we will ask another rescue to conduct a home visit.
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, vaccinations, flea treatment, heartworm test and preventative, wormings, and all other medical care needed to ensure a healthy dog. Fees vary, based on the care required, age and needs of the animal. We rely strictly on our adoption fees since we don't receive any outside funding.
The adoption fees we require do not cover the medical expenses, let alone the daily cost of taking care of the dogs we hope to re-home. Additional expenses are out-of-pocket.
We are ALL volunteers; there are NO paid employees in our rescue. The adoption fee is used to help with veterinary care. All of the dogs in our care are fully vetted, spayed/neutered, are up to date on all vaccines, are heartworm tested and kept on year round heartworm prevention. If they have tested positive for heartworm - they will be treated. Any and all medical issues that our vets find or that arise while in foster care are treated.
WE DO NOT ADOPT OUR DOGS TO HOMES WITH UNALTERED PETS...NO EXCEPTIONS!
In order to adopt one of these wonderful pups you will be required to: Fill out an adoption application, provide a veterinary reference, agree to a telephone/email screening, have one of our representatives conduct a home visit, complete and sign an adoption contract, and pay an adoption fee.
