Caz is an absolutely wonderful 1 year old Pom/chi that would love a new home where her people would cherish her and treat her like she deserves. She came from an out of area shelter where she was found as a stray and no one came for her and then worst of the worse, they were ready to euthanize her and 16 other dogs before ResQ came to the rescue! Here's what Caz's foster mom has to say:
Caz is an intelligent, hard working little girl who loves her people and her animal companions - currently, a young male dog ten pounds larger than she and two cats.
Caz has a good foundation of training for obedience and manners. She is a very pleasant little girl to live with. A few of the words Caz knows are the recall command, "off", "no", "wait", "leave it", "stop"/"quiet", and she definitely responds to praise. Caz is housebroken and does her potty outside.
Caz has great manners and does not jump on furniture or beds without being invited. She asks for attention by sitting, lying down, or looking at you all while being quiet and not barking or whining. On car rides, Caz sits quietly in the seat where she is placed and does not jump out of the car when the door is opened. She will wait until being picked up. Caz never wanders far once establishing a good relationship with her person.
Caz has amazing potential to be a great dog in any situation. Good training maintenance will make this possible. This is just a matter of reinforcing her appropriate behaviors only. Caz has been well socialized with both people and animals. There has not yet been a dog she has not gotten along with. While she is usually polite and quiet, Caz can be a protective little one around her people and will bark an alarm or make a low growl, for example, when we are out walking past sunset and someone comes near from behind us, which makes her a good watch dog. She is suitable in a home with younger children. Her natural instinct is to chase cats to try and play with them, but she has learned that this is not okay. She would probably be okay in a home with cats as long as she has early reminders not to give chase.
In her new home, Caz will benefit from having a crate to stay in as this will make her transition more smooth. It will help her adjustment in knowing where not to potty as well as give her a place to feel secure.
